This activity introduces the idea of slope with movable points on a line. Students will investigate positive and negative vertical and horizontal changes determining when the line rises or falls from left to right.
Students are then given characteristics of the line, rising or falling from left to right, and must determine where to place the second point. They will also be introduced to the slope as a ratio of the vertical change and horizontal change, linking the signs of the changes to slope being negative or positive.
