Posted on Oct 30, 2008
Topic: Equations and Inequalities
In this activity, students will investigate inequalities. Applications of inequalities to volume and perimeter provide motivation to develop a deeper understanding of the topic. Dynamic sliders and self-check questions make this activity approachable for Algebra 1 students. Students can put into practice what they have learned with extension/homework questions.

Activity Key Steps:
In this activity, students will explore writing and graphing inequalities. First students will to solve an inequality to determine the height for a cup that needs to hold at least 12 ounces. They will use a dynamic model to help them find this answer.
Then students will solve an inequality that involves the perimeter of a rectangle. The slider will change the value of x and update the value of the perimeter.
