Topic: Rational Functions
Students perform a simulation to measure the sound intensity at different distances from the source of a noise, and then use the data to develop an inverse variation model.

Activity Key Steps:
Students will investigate inverse variation. They will enter data of sound readings at various distances from a noise source given on the worksheet into lists L1 and L2. They will use this data to develop a model of intensity and map safe and unsafe zones.
On the Home screen, students will calculate the square of the distance and intensity multiplied by the square of the distance. This will show students the constant of variation.
Students will graph the data collected as a scatter plot and use the constant of variation to graph a function that models the data. This function will help them determine and graph the zones on their worksheet.
