Activity:

Conditional Statements

Posted on Sep 10, 2009

Topic: Inductive & Deductive Reasoning

In this activity, students construct examples of conditional statements such as parallel and perpendicular lines. After completing the conditional statement, they will write the converse, inverse, and contrapositive and determine if each is true.

Activity Key Steps:

In this activity, students construct examples of conditional statements such as parallel and perpendicular lines. After completing the conditional statement, they will write the converse, inverse, and contrapositive and determine if each is true.

Next, students will use the Parallel tool to construct a new line through the point parallel to the original line.

Now students should find the slope of each line.

Then students will investigate conditional statements about the sum of lengths of segments for collinear and noncollinear points. Once again, students will write the converse, inverse, and contrapositive. However, some of the statements are false and students will have to provide a counterexample sketch.
