Activity Key Steps:

Students will run two experiments that involve simulating pouring coins from a bag.

In the first experiment, a program models pouring coins out of a bag. Each time the coins are poured out, the ones that land heads up are removed and the remaining ones are shaken and poured out again until they are gone.

Students will collect the data and graph it.

Students will use different methods to find equations to model the data.

Then, students will find the inverse of the data and its corresponding equation.

Students will also run a second experiment, where a program also simulates pouring coins out of a bag. Each time the coins are poured out, the ones that land heads up are counted and that number of coins is added to the bag, shaken, and poured out repeatedly until about 200 coins are in the bag.
